NV Energy is now accepting applications for valley residents interested in joining its solar hot water heating program.
The company is offering a one-time installation incentive up to $1,500, it said in a news release. The program is limited to residential customers who own their own home and an electric water heater.
No technical skills are required, said Jennifer Hanson, a company spokeswoman. NV Energy has a list of eligible contractors to install the systems.
Customers who participate should see a substantial savings, Hanson said, after paying a few thousands dollars for installation, some of which will be covered by the company’s rebate.
Savings could be as much $100 each month depending on how much water they are using. Solar systems can usually provide most of a home’s hot water needs, at least until its temperatures fall during the night or inclement weather, Hanson said. At that point, the home’s electrical water heating system will kick in.
