You should choose that system which not only provide enough hot water but also save money and energy efficiently. You can consider the following factors for selecting the best type and model of water heater for your home.

1. Fuel Type, availability and cost.
2. Size
3. Energy efficiency.
4. Cost

Water heaters need maintenance to perform proper functioning. There maintenance cost is not so expensive .You should check them every year and have them checked more thoroughly by an accredited installer every 3-5 years, or as specified by your installer.
